Dr. Sujata Murty
Assistant Professor
University at Albany, NY
Sujata Murty is an Assistant Professor at the University at Albany whose research interests involve the integration of paleoclimate, physical oceanography and modeling perspectives to examine long-term climate and ocean dynamics. Sujata received her Ph.D. in Oceanography in 2018 from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in 2020. Her research focuses on using geochemical proxy records from Indo-Pacific corals to reconstruct past changes in surface ocean circulation, precipitation and climate on seasonal to multi-decadal timescales. Sujata then synthesizes these records with high-resolution ocean models and coupled climate model simulations to examine the drivers of Indo-Pacific climate and ocean variability over the past few centuries. She is actively involved with the PAGES CoralHydro2k working group to create and maintain a database of published coral geochemical data, which is now available to the broader paleoclimate community. In addition, she participates in several art-science outreach initiatives to communicate her research to public audiences.
